The Seasons of Family
July 8, 2026 · Barbara Ruffing
Psalm 145:4: “One generation shall commend your works to another, and shall declare your mighty acts.”
This weekend we had our 70th birthday celebration. My birthday was in May, and Ken’s is in July. Our friends organized a very special celebration. My brother and sister in law came in from Pennsylvania for 24 hours. My son flew in for an extended weekend. I felt a profound sense of gratitude for what God has done through the years and seasons. He has truly done an amazing work in our lives. So I felt to write a poem. You can listen to the musical version in the “Listen” tab.
The Seasons of Family
When God first formed our families,
I think He had in mind
A bond that gently carries us
Through seasons, intertwined.
We grow and learn together,
Through victories and tests,
In simple days and quiet work,
Love brings out our best.
Chorus
He weaves our hearts together
Through the seasons of our lives;
Faithful through the changing years,
His love forever binds.
When children fill our circle,
A family of our own,
We find new ways to share the joy
And cherish every one.
The years keep moving onward;
Our children spread their wings.
We gather close when life allows,
And hold the precious things.
Then quiet moments find us,
Inviting hearts to see
The legacy of love we’ve built
Through faith and family.
Final Chorus
He weaves our hearts together
Through the seasons of our lives;
Faithful through the changing years,
His love forever binds.
In every generation,
His mercies never cease;
This legacy of family
Becomes His gift of peace.
